Philadelphia, PA – November 23, 2009. Crown Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: CCK) (Crown) (www.crowncork.com) was honored with five Best in Metal Awards from the Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association (MPMA). Two of the company’s business units, CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe and CROWN Closures Europe, were recognized for the distinctive designs created for a range of consumer products.
CROWN Speciality Packaging Europe was honored with the following awards:
* The Gold Award in the Health and Beauty category for the elegant Solid Perfume Jewel tins developed for Jean Paul Gaultier Parfums. The round women’s perfume package features embossing on the lid, including a replication of the female silhouette the brand uses for its perfume bottles. A square shape in gun metal silver with embossing was chosen for the "Le Male" brand. These designs are the latest examples of how Jean Paul Gaultier uses metal packaging to distinguish its fragrances.
* The Gold Award in the Beverage category for the Finlandia Waistline Vodka tin. The five piece tin features a mix of blue and white hues with high-resolution wintry snowflakes that conveys the freshness that is associated with the brand. A waistline profile at the top of the package facilitates product handling.
* The Gold Award in the Non-Processed Food category for the Marks & Spencer Mixed Nuts range of tins. Designed to combine elegance with convenience, the cylindrical tins feature recloseable lids to extend product shelf life. High quality graphics help consumers easily identify the product inside while metallic gold highlights convey a world-class image.
* A Highly Recommended Award in the Non-Processed Food category for the Cadbury Heritage Biscuit Barrel. Its rounded biscuit tin shape and design captures the nostalgic trend perfectly. A gold printed decorative bow wraps around the body, making it an ideal gift for any occasion. Complemented by the contrast of the dark violet color, the white Cadbury logo on the container body helps modernize this well-loved brand.
CROWN Closures Europe was awarded in the Cap category for its work with Gardenau on its Tenczynek range of jam products. Designed to support the brand’s premium positioning in the market, the marine blue caps have a unique tactile finish that offers consumers a new sensory experience. The cap’s external panel is decorated with a matte varnish to add an element of distinction and help convey product quality and premium image in the market place. In addition, nutritional and historical information about the Tenczynek product line is printed on the cap’s interior.
"We’re honored to have been recognized with five Best in Metal Awards," said Chris Homfray, President, CROWN Europe. "It clearly demonstrates how creative package design can support a brand and provide a powerful platform to differentiate products from the competition."
The Metal Packaging Manufacturers Association organizes the Best in Metal Awards each year to showcase metal packaging excellence, innovation and creativity.
